It is believed that a book can be your best friend, philosopher and guide. Books are simply great. They not just educate you but also have a great entertaining factor in them. Plus, there’s so many genres to choose from, be it children’s books, fantasies, horror, thriller, autobiographies, journals, adventure, travel. You name a theme, there’s a book on it. There must be some areas you’re widely interested in like travelling or adventure. You can find loads of information regarding travelling in some books which would greatly help you in your travels. This is just one of the examples of rather countless scenarios.
There’s no doubt that books are a great source of knowledge but contrary to popular myths, they are also wonderful entertainment sources. Don’t believe me, just take a look at the number of books that have been turned into super hit movies. The list would be endless. There are loads of movies being made from inspirational books as we read this article. A great book has tendency to hold the focus of the user for the whole time without letting his thoughts wander elsewhere. The books characters stay with you even after you’ve done reading the book. Such is the mystical power of books.
Ask any parent about the importance of children’s story books and you’d be amazed when they start gushing about how much these books have come to their aid. Most of us have slept hearing stories from these very books and these stories in turn source the amazing fantasy dreams that children have. And the jobs that we have and the great businesses that we are running or the reading that we are doing in general have been provided by these books.
Another aspect would be the life changing power that the books have. A Point in example would be the number of self help books that are available in the market. But the thing is ‘To each his own’. So in spite of there being so much stuff available, you’d have to choose what’s best for yourself. Also it’s a stated fact that the autobiographies written by great men/women have inspired generations after them. The Best one to quote here would be that of Mahatma Gandhi. Even after so many decades, this book still inspires people to lead towards the path of non-violence.Books record what wise men have heard, seen, thought or discovered. The eternal truths are recorded in good books. They instruct us in our youth and comfort us in our old age.
Francis Bacon says: "Reading make a full man; conference a ready man; and writing an exact man".
Reading habit is one of the best characteristics that a man can possess. Once the habit of reading books grows in one, it seldom dies out. It is said that a book is one's best friend in life. By reading a good book, one can not only earn knowledge but also gain experience in life, and realize the eternal truth. A good book can guide one in the right direction in his life's journey.
The taste of reading' should be acquired early in life, because a good book refreshes one's mind and bring immense pleasure.
Just to read any book, whatever comes near at hand, is not to be called a good reading habit, because worthless books can not provide knowledge. It is only the good books that can provide innocent joy and pure wisdom that one aspires. So there must be a proper selection of books which are to be read.
R. W. Emerson has cited three practical rules in this regard:
1. Never read any book that is not a year old.
2. Never read any but the famed books.
3. Never read any but what you like.
It means that a book must be selected that is already known to be a good one. And the subject that is also to be after the reader's choice. When we read a book, we expect some new and substantial material in it. If the reader has some special interest in any particular subject, he should look for books on such a subject. So the reading habit should be confined to certain limits in order to derive maximum benefit out of it.
Books impart precious knowledge to the readers. "Knowledge is power: Says Francis Bacon. And Sterne says: "The desire of knowledge, like the thirst of riches, increases ever with the acquisition of it."
Wealth can be stolen, while knowledge can not be. The more you offer it to others, the more it increases in yourself. There is no alternative of knowledge in this world; and knowledge can only be gained by reading good books.
Jeremy Collier says: "A man as well expects to grow stronger by always eating, as wiser by always reading".
It means that by eating good food, a man can become strong in his body; but by reading good books, he can become wise in his mind. And it is only the reading habit that can make a man wise in life.

#MAKE READING HABIT IN FOLLOWING WAYS
1)Decide what you want to read about. You'll be much more motivated to read if you choose a book or magazine that you actually have some interest in. Check out the staff picks at some local bookstores, read book reviews in a magazine that interests you, ask some friends and family what they recommend and why, or pick your favourite TV genre and ask a librarian to recommend a book in a similar style. Make sure the subject is interesting to you.
2)Don't allow public or peer pressure to choose your reading material. It doesn't matter if "everyone's reading it." If you have no interest in a vampire love story, don't choose to read one. If you have no interest in football, don't choose a football player's biography. Choose what you are actually, personally interested in. If you try, but find that you don't care that much for fiction (novels, such as "Twilight" or the Harry Potter books), try biographies or informational books. You can read about political personalities, Hollywood celebrities, royalty; you can read about World War II, or Genghis Khan, or the Civil War. You can read about how to prune trees, how to cook, different dog breeds. Or you can choose to read classics such as "A Christmas Carol" or "Moby Dick." There are all sorts of books to choose from. Choose one you want to read, not one all your friends are reading (unless you really are interested).
3)Give yourself a time and a place to read. It should be quiet, comfortable, and designed to make you feel relaxed.
4)Make yourself comfortable. Some people like to lie on a couch. Some people like to sit in a chair. Some like to use an ottoman to prop their feet up, some like to sit at a table and lay the book down when they read. Whatever makes your reading effortless and comfortable is what you should do. There are little laptop tables with swiveling tops that you can angle for a reading surface. Sitting in a chair with your book on a table at a comfortable angle and distance can help you focus on the book rather on your arms getting tired from holding the book at the proper angle, or your hands going to sleep.
5)Take care of other priorities before you sit down to read. If you've never been able to settle into reading easily, you will make it that much more difficult if your mind is blazing over errands you still need to run today, work you need to do, or calls you need to make. Accomplish these things first, then read. A quiet mind will have more resources to dedicate to imagination.
6)Give it a really good try. If you have trouble imagining what you're reading, practice closing your eyes and describing a daydream to yourself while you picture it in vivid detail. If you only have trouble with this one book, ditch it. There's no point torturing yourself. Every book is not for every reader.
7)print, rather than marathon. Read in bursts if this is more your style. Rather than try to read a book from cover to cover over a weekend, take a break every now and then to stretch, snack, listen to a song, sleep, and think or talk about what you're reading.
8)Don't read alone. Find a reading buddy to read funny stories out loud with.
9)Join a book club. When others are reading the same book you are, the group always needs to slow down to accommodate all schedules and all reading speeds. This way, your group may read a chapter or two per week - or maybe you will agree to meet in a month, after you have all finished the book you've agreed to read. Then you can discuss things you liked, disliked, were confused about, and also talk about the meanings and significance of the things you've read.
10)Treat yourself (in moderation) when you read. Have a chocolate, compliment yourself for meeting a goal, read something erotic, do something that you already consider a pleasant habit.
11)Recommend your favourite books to other readers, and get together to talk about them. Call your brother and/or sister and encourage them to read the book you are enjoying. Tell them to hurry and read it so you can talk with them about it! Sharing the reading love is a great way to make reading a pleasant habit.
