                                         Summer Vacations
College life is full of friends, fights, relationships, break-ups and fun, obviously. We spend most of our time with our friends having so much fun that even holidays seem boring. Amidst all this, there is not much time for family especially for those who are hostellers or staying away from home in PGs. For us summer vacation is the perfect opportunity to spend time with family while reuniting with old friends. Summer vacations are bound to happen a good two months if not the best of a person’s life. But, sometimes as it turns out things are not as we want them to be and the unexpected happens.
Almost like everyone my vacations also started on a happy note. Waking up late , eating  delicious food , watching TV and lazy afternoons are a regular. However, the same doesn’t follow for the evenings as they are power packed and full of energy and generally are consumed playing cricket or football. We meet at our favourite spot, the parking areas of the sectors. Old friends, bikes and the craziness of the moment, how can be a bike ride away. But before that there’s something else which we all friends love and that’s stunting. And then starts the crazy stunting sessions with all those wheelies, stoppies, burn-outs which usually end with an injury or two. Then we all gear up for a bike ride and add to that some rain which makes up for an incredible biking experience. The first month of my vacations went as per the same schedule with no major activities.
The second month, however, was more happening as we were planning for a trip to Rishikesh, Uttrakhand.  We left for Rishikesh around 04:00am on 9th June. I’m one who always wants to be on the driver’s seat. Driving car and listening alongside to my favourite songs is kind of a hobby of mine , so I was driving. And going to the trip were my parents , my sister, brother and me. We left our home in great spirits. Before the sun showed up, we were already in Uttrakhand. Driving on roads 2000m above the sea level was absolute fun for me, as my family members enjoyed viewing the scenic valley. On one side of the road was a rocky mountain and on the other side a river flowing several thousand metres downwards which was quite amazing. We stopped on a restaurant for breakfast. Its construction could have left many confused and others amazed. After having breakfast we clicked a few pictures which revealed the sensational beauty of Uttrakhand. We again started our journey and reached our destination well ahead of time. After a long drive we took the much needed rest and re-energized ourselves. In the evening we left for shopping, nothing like shopping in a mall but way better. Almost all items were handicrafts and were brilliantly made. After shopping we left for our hotel. Next day was an absolute thriller as we went for rafting and mountain trekking. Rafting was my personal favourite. Following days we went seeing temples and doing stuff. Sitting by the river bank on the rocks was just awesome. So, finally our trip came to an end, and we were leaving for home on 16th June. We were home by 10:00am in the morning. After getting home we came to know about the flashfloods and cloudbursts and were left in a shocked state. It was a day which destroyed Uttrakhand and claimed thousands of lives. It was also an emotional moment for my family for we knew what could have happened had we been late. For God’s kindness we were well on time and were safe. Everyone in my family wished for the well being of those who were stranded in floods. For those who lost their lives in the floods, their souls may rest in peace and God give strength to those who lost their family members, for family is world and without your world no reason is good enough to live for. This incident was completely uncalled for but as we know things are not as we want them to be.
The vacation was coming to a close but there was some more pain before it. Five days of continous fever completely broke down my body, especially the fever on the last day when the mercury raced to 104.7F and left me glued to the bed. As the reports then showed I had typhoid which meant further rest for ten days and all those medicines.
As it turned out to be it was not the best of vacations but at least they taught the value of family which is most important.
