Most of us do not know that how a diesel locomotive works.Firstly there is a big fuel tank underneath the locomotive in which whole diesel is present. This diesel fuel empowers a huge 16-cylinder two-stroke diesel engine. One transmission shaft is used to transfer the generated power from the engine to the generator which is present close to the engine.
The generator turn that power into electrical current. This electricity from the generator goes to the number of electric motors attached to the wheels of the locomotive. At the same time a fan at the top of the diesel engine forces air down onto these motors to keep them cool. These are called as traction motors and these motors convert electricity into thrust energy and with the help of this energy the locomotive move forward.
